Nowadays,a lot of PCAP touch screen apply in outdoor environment.So many customer will ask does our pcap touch screen can work underwater?or they want to do a pcap touch screen device can support waterproof touch.All right, today let me explain more clearly for you.

But at first, we need to know how does the capacitive touch screen work?The capacitive touch screen is a four-layer composite glass screen. The inner surface and the inter layer of the glass screen are each coated with a layer of ITO. The outermost layer is a thin layer of silica glass protective layer. The inter layer ITO coating is used as the working surface, and the four corners are led out Four electrodes, the inner layer of ITO is a shielding layer to ensure a good working environment. When a finger touches the metal layer, due to the electric field of the human body, a coupling capacitor is formed between the user and the surface of the touch screen. For high-frequency current, the capacitor is a direct conductor, so the finger draws a small current from the contact point. This current flows from the electrodes on the four corners of the touch screen, and the current flowing through these four electrodes is proportional to the distance from the finger to the four corners. The controller calculates the position of the touch point by accurately calculating the ratio of these four currents.

1. The frame around the touch sensor should not be conductive, we suggest use the plastic case is best.If you use the iron case, the water will be grounded to the system through the metal edge ,the touch performance will be poor.As we all know, the signal of water is similar to a real touch or a finger touch.
   
2. Or you can do coating on the cover glass,like anti finger.it can greatly reduce the contact area with water and reduce the interference signal strength of water.
   
3. A proper UI design can help reduce the risk of abnormal operation because water is more likely to have wrong contact in the edge area.Please avoid designing UI functions in the edge area.
